Just imagine..
For the next few months, you’re living in Japan, in the city of Nagasaki. You have a cozy apartment, new connections, and you walk the streets of a Japanese city — but you’re not a tourist here. This is your home for the coming months, or maybe even years.
You’re thinking about a new future, new opportunities — fresh ideas and inspiration are starting to flow. You’re like Marco Polo: the country is completely different, yet so captivating and full of promise. You’ve finally stepped out of the routine and started a new life.
Your friends and acquaintances are amazed and keep asking how you made it happen. The days feel longer, filled with new experiences. You’re bursting with fresh ideas — and the guide to this new world is Vadim Luppo, who has walked this path himself.
Nagasaki is Japan’s historical window to Europe — it’s where the country first came into contact with the Western world.
Here, you’ll find a unique blend of cultures, unusual architecture, the sea, lush hills, ancient temples, and surrounding islands.
It’s a city with plenty to do for at least a few months — especially if you’re in to off-the-beaten-path places where you don’t just want to visit, but actually live.

Yes — there’s sailing too!
My sailboat is docked at Nagasaki Sunset Marina, and there are a few more marinas nearby. The local sailors are very friendly and always ready to communicate.

How much is the living in Japan?
Many people think that life in Japan is expensive and inaccessible, that flights are costly, and so on.
In reality, this is no longer the case. Life in Japan is much cheaper than in Europe, and here are some numbers as a proof:

A low VAT (only 10%) and strict disposal regulations result in very cheap second-hand goods, inexpensive cars, electronics, boats, real estate, and more.
Japan is much like Sweden, but with a much cheaper cost of living. It's a similar to the situation with boats in Sweden, but in other industries.
This is a country full of opportunities that are often not fully embraced by Japanese people themselves. There are relatively few entrepreneurs among them, and they generally prefer the ease of employment over taking risks to start a business.
You can find something special and promising in Japan, so if such thoughts even cross your mind — come and see for yourself. It's a unique place where there are huge inefficiencies in many business sectors, which creates opportunities for other entrepreneurs.

Make up your mind
Discuss it with your loved ones. You can come on your own, or you can come with your partner if you have one. If not, Japan has many international couples, and there is a high chance of meeting an educated and interesting person here.
It’s a unique cultural exchange when you're in a relationship with a local resident.

How to get to Japan?
Check the tickets and choose the best option. You need to look for flights to Fukuoka! From Fukuoka to Nagasaki, it takes about 2 hours by train, and tickets to Fukuoka are significantly cheaper (up to 2-3 times).
It’s better to buy tickets from major capital airports, it usually costs less. For example, the most affordable tickets are often available from London and Rome. There are also inexpensive flights from Moscow.
Madrid, Frankfurt, Paris, and Istanbul also offer reasonable prices. Sometimes it makes sense to fly within Europe to the nearest airport using local airlines, and then continue to Asia.

Is your driver license valid in Japan?
It depends on the country that issued your driver's license, but most European countries follow the same international driver's license convention with Japan, so your license will be valid.
In some cases, you may need to exchange your license: take a short test (10 questions in your language) and pass a practical driving exam.
